Important update to Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (PSSR) training
The MCA has released MGN 718 (M+F): 2026 IMO Amendment to PSSR, confirming an important update to Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (PSSR) training.
The MCA now requires all seafarers who are required to hold a PSSR certificate to complete additional training covering the new competence. If you completed an MCA-approved PSSR course on or after 1 January 2026, this additional learning outcome should already be included, so you do not need to complete the supplementary module.
If you hold any of the following certificates, you will need to complete the free MCA training by the 31st March 2027:
– Holders of a UK PSSR certificate dated before 1 January 2026
– Holders of UK Certificates of Competency
– Holders of UK Certificates of Proficiency
– UK-certified officers and ratings
– Seafarers employed or engaged on board as part of the ship’s complement with designated safety or pollution prevention duties
This new training includes training on:
– Violence and harassment
– Sexual harassment
– Bullying
– Sexual assault
– Reporting concerns appropriately
– The impact of these behaviours on safety, health and wellbeing
The MCA has arranged for this requirement to be met through the free online module through OneOcean’s Prevention and Response to Violence & Harassment.
The module is:
– Free of charge for UK seafarers and UK-MCA certified seafarers
– Available online 24/7
– Accessible by mobile phone
– Takes 1 hour to complete
– Not subject to a final assessment
To complete the module:
