Most candidates who are preparing for their UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (UK MCA) Officer of the Watch will be required to sit Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) exams in:
- Navigation

Candidates who pass the MNTB-approved Honours Degree, Foundation Degree or

Candidates are required to pass both subjects, if one subject is failed, you can carry forward the subject you have passed for up to 12 months. You will be required to pass the other subject within 12 months. Once both subjects have been passed, the pass will be valid for 3 years towards your UK MCA Certificate of Competency, you must pass your orals as well within the 3 year period. Further information on the regulations can be found here.
There are two free blogs that tell you what will be assessed in these exams. These blogs can also help you form a study plan if you are preparing for your SQA exams.
All content that is assessed in the SQA exam is covered by the SafeSeas Training Platform, which is available for £7.99 per month.
